Recent wedding cakes...

Just because HeidiCakes isn't currently in business doesn't mean I'm not making cake.  Here are a couple of wedding cakes I recently did for my sister-in-law and my niece.  Both were decorated with buttercream icing.

In the army now...

I did this army beret cake for my cousin, who works at the University of Utah ROTC.  It was for some guys who were graduating from the ROTC and becoming 2nd lieutenants in the army.  At least I think that's what my cousin told me.  Anyways, it was kind of fun and a little challenging to make.  Especially shaping the front of the hat.  I think it would have looked better if I had made the top of it a little more rounded.  Oh well!  It turned out pretty good.

Toy Story Cake

For this cake, I printed a picture of Woody and cut it out and then traced around the image on the frosting with a tooth pick.  Then I piped him with buttercream icing.  It's funny how I can draw this on a cake with icing, but if you asked me to draw it on a piece of paper with a pencil it probably wouldn't look as good.

Cupcakes

When cupcakes and cupcake shops first started to become a trendy thing I was really kind of annoyed by it for some reason.  Probably because I'm generally annoyed by really trendy things anyway (at least at first).  I don't know, but lately I am really liking the cupcake thing.  They can be so cute!  Especially mini cupcakes (or cupcake cuties as I like to call them).  And I've kind of gotten into the show, 'cupcake wars.'  I don't know if I could pull off what they have to do on that show in so little time!  I'd like to think I could, but I'd probably be freaking out and making a complete idiot out of myself.

Lace

I love wedding cakes covered with a lace design.  They're so pretty!  Here's some pictures of a couple I've done recently.  I also really love the color schemes that are in style right now (champagne, black, teal, purple and coral are my current favorites).

Made with love...

Love is an ingredient I add to all of my cakes, but this cake was extra special because it was for my husband's birthday.  He just turned 30!!!  He graduated from dental school last May and since I didn't make a cake for that occasion, I had to make his birthday cake look like dentures.  I just had to!  What kind of a cake-making, wife of a dentist would I be if I didn't?

My name is Heidi Kim and this is my cake blog!  I recently opened up my own cake business (HeidiCakes), which I run out of my house.  I love decorating cakes and I can't think of anything else I would rather get paid to do.  I'm excited to share my talent on this blog and I hope you'll visit often to check out the latest and greatest of HeidiCakes.
